The city enters the diary as distance, cost, access, waiting, noise, opportunity, and interruption.

“Operating System” is an interpretive metaphor — not a technical claim or Fact about institutions.

01　都市は背景ではない

文学では、都市はしばしば舞台として語られる。

東京。プラハ。ロンドン。ロサンゼルス。

しかし日記を読むと、都市はもっと具体的である。

遠い。近い。歩ける。電車に乗る。料金がかかる。店が閉まっている。職場へ行かなければならない。病院へ行く。劇場へ入る。出版社へ原稿を届ける。

都市は、場所の名前ではなく行動条件として現れる。

都市生活は、最初に住居から始まる。

どこに住むか。誰と住むか。仕事からどれだけ離れているか。家賃はいくらか。書く場所があるか。暖房があるか。食事を作れるか。来客を迎えられるか。
